biography

Edwina Hayes Edwina Hayes is a singer/songwriter who has been a regular performer on both the British and Nashville acoustic scene since 1999. Born in Dublin and raised in Lancashire, Edwina's beautifully crafted songs and natural stage presence have led her to some of the UK's finest stages.

Dividing her time between England and America, Edwina's second home is Nashville where she is much respected on the song-writing circuit. She has been a regular performer at such haunts as The Bluebird Cafe, 12th & Porter, Brown's Diner and the Sherlock Holmes.  Her influences include Ray Charles, Carole King, Van Morrison, Nanci Griffith, Richard Thompson and Bob Dylan.

As well as writing on her own, Edwina has co-written with friends including Boo Hewerdine, Ricky Ross. Don Rollins (who recently penned It's Five O Clock Somewhere for Alan Jackson/Jimmy Buffet) and Bobby Wood.

In 2005 Edwina released her debut album OUT ON MY OWN on the Warner Brothers label on which she was joined by the likes of Clive Gregson, Dr Hook`s Dennis Locorriere and Christine Collister. One of the tracks was chosen to go on the No.1 bestselling CD 'Acoustic Love.'

Michael Parkinson and Bob Harris have been tremendous supporters of Edwina on BBC Radio 2.

During the past 3 years, Edwina has toured the UK three times with Nanci Griffith, opened 26 shows for Jools Holland, played twice with Van Morrison and performed 2 concerts for Michael Parkinson at his Maidenhead pub. In the same period Edwina has also performed with Ricky Ross, Loudon Wainwright III, Roy Harper, Lulu, Julie Fowlis, Sandi Thom and Daniel Beddingfield.

Her new album POUR ME A DRINK looks set to have the same success as its predecessor. Her decision to record a stripped-back sound pays dividends on Hayes` exquisite self-penned material, allowing plenty of room for her gentle guitar picking and unrelentingly beautiful voice. The gentle melancholy of Hayes` mellow folk-pop couldn`t sound better. When Perez Hilton featured her MySpace page on his USA website blog, her site received 20,000 hits (including 100 album sales) - in just two hours! Another 17,000 hits and more sales followed shortly after.

"Her solo shows are a pleasing blend of well crafted songs - beautifully sung and played - coupled with a natural charm that audiences everywhere find appealing. After a few minutes in her company even the largest crowd become a close friend".

"There are many un-mined treasures studding the UKs live circuit and surely Yorkshire- based vocalist Edwina Hayes shines brightly among them. Possessed of a softly crystalline voice and a gentle country-folk sensibility she`s built up an enviable reputation as a solo artist".  ROCK & REEL Aug 2008
