Henry Priestman

biography

FOLLOWING a successful career on the rock and pop secne as part of THE CHRISTIANS (He wrote most of their many hits) Henry Priestman's 2009 debut solo album found him thrust into new territory with acoustic-based songs getting him much airplay and new venues to perform in- which simply lap up his music and stage presence. The album has just been released on VINYL in a special limited edition. His natural Liverpool charm resonates throughout and his self effacing outlook masks a enviable talent for what is essentially songwriting at its very best.

Presently recording a NEW album for release in autumn 2013, he is keen to explore more acoustic venues as solo, duo or small band - he is perfect for small venues, arts centres and festivals - a true original.

Henry Priestman reinvented himself as a singer-songwriter when his debut solo album entitled ‘The Chronicles of Modern Life’ was released and became a surprise hit album- topping the Amazon Folk & World charts. It’s the sound of a man who’s seen the music world explode from punk in the days he supported the Sex Pistols in 1977, his million selling ‘pop’ band The Christians for whom he wrote all the songs on their 1987 triple-platinum debut!
His numerous other projects include working with The Yachts’, ‘It’s Immaterial,’ sharing a mic and a number one single with Paul McCartney, and composing the title song for London West End musical “Dreamboats and Petticoats”.

Radio 2’s Johnnie Walker described Henry’s new direction as “music for grumpy old men” and in 2008, Island Records picked up Henry’s solo album from Stiff making him at 53, the oldest-ever artist to be signed to a major label for a debut solo album! The track “Grey’s The New Blonde” was play-listed at Radio 2 and further singles “Don’t You Love Me no More” and “He Ain’t Good Enough for You” also picked up extensive Radio 2 airplay.

Henry is currently putting finishes touches to the new album ‘The Last Mad Surge of Youth’ interspersed with a new-found love of live-work which is taking him all over the UK including a recent support slot on “The Fishermans Friends” tour. He can perform solo, duo and with other musicians to suit and has a charming affect on audiences everywhere. A clever combination of new songs, album gems and some of those classic Christians hits like ‘Ideal World’ ‘Born Again’ and ‘Forgotten Town’ make for an engaging show. His inspirational songwriting workshops are also in big demand - yet another string to his bow!

“Rough-hewn charm that should appeal to listeners for whom thumping disappointment & bloody-minded stoicism are the new rock and roll”
